Have you ever wondered why bad things happen to good people?
Have you ever wondered why some have to battle through difficulties in life that seem unfair? Have you ever wondered what God was doing in the midst of all these things?
I was thinking about some of the difficult times Lisa and I have walked through personally and professionally and a thought came to me when I read something about compost piles! How in the world do the two connect? I think it might amaze you!
For those who compost you know that you can put almost any kind of organic material in the pile and it will begin to break down and change in nature from things that were through away items into something that is very useful. You can throw into the pile old moldy fruit, vegetable peels of any kind, leaves, grass clippings, egg shells, and almost any other kind of organic material that is through away and will break down over time! If you put all those nasty items together in a pile and throw a little dirt over them and give it some time to process all that stinky, rotten, and useless stuff almost miraculously turns into some of the richest fertilizer and soil that you will find! The natural workings of the decomposing process breaks things down, changes the appearance, the nature and even the smell of the new material! Dark and rich with nutrients it becomes the best natural way to stir your plants and trees to bear fruit.
And that is where the real connection is! If we are willing to throw all the difficult situations, horribly painful experiences and nasty items of our life past and present into a compost pile of the spirit and leave it there God has a way of changing all of those things over time, not in a moment or instant like we would so often want, but over the course of time those things will become the richest most life giving and fruit producing items in our world. God will change the nature of all the things we have experienced into the very things that will bring the greatest fruit to our lives if we will leave it in the compost pile, cover it with His grace and word, leave it and let time do what only time can. We can see the wonder of God’s transformation! And change the things that were once considered a great loss into great gain for His glory and our good!
What do you need to unload and leave in the “compost pile”? Leave it with God and let Him work the work that only He can with our experiences to turn them into the very thing that produces the greatest fruit for your future!
And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. Romans 8:28
